Recap: Data Science for Diverse Scholars in Down Syndrome Research (DS3)

The INCLUDE Data Coordinating Center (DCC) hosted the third annual in-person, immersive summer course in data sciences known as the Data Science for Diverse Scholars in Down Syndrome Research (DS3) July 8th - July 19th, 2024 at the University of Colorado Boulder. Eleven speakers from the Down syndrome community came from around the country to present at the course alongside our researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder and Anschutz Medical Campus, Velsera, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Participants learned the basics of how to generate, identify, and collect high-content multidimensional datasets; their management, analysis, and visualization; as well as the development of key professional skills required for career advancement.

Applicant specifications for the course included: graduate student (masters, doctoral), postdoctoral fellow, or early-stage investigator, research interest in Down syndrome and data sciences, and a member of an underrepresented minority group. All student travel, lodging, and per diem expenses were supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) INCLUDE Project.
