Individuals with Down syndrome show a high prevalence of hematological alterations that originate very early during embryonic development. The chromosome 21 gene RUNX1 is a master regulator of hematopoiesis and blood cell homeostasis and differentiation, yet its contribution to Down syndrome-associated disorders remains largely unexplored. We seek to better understand how the RUNX1 gene contributes to the altered blood cell composition seen in individuals with Down syndrome.
