Investigating injury response and bone regeneration in Down syndrome mouse models

Sherman, Kirby M

DS patients experience low bone mineral density and are at increased risk of fracture. The proposed research will investigate the bone healing response in DS using mouse models of DS to study tissue and bone injury repair, and will determine the extent to which prostaglandin signaling, known to enhance bone formation and crucial for wound healing, may be disrupted in mouse models of DS. These studies will provide crucial information regarding the extent of compromised regeneration in DS and determine whether treatment with known pro-inflammatory and wound healing agents are able to correct the impaired bone and wound healing in murine DS model(s).
